Post subject: OCR - Picking up few words from document...
PostPosted: Wed Jul 20, 2005 10:00 pm
I am in need to scan image which will have few words(typed, not hand writing), that I will need to read and eventually will need to put into fields and save it in access database.

Any suggestion on using OCR? and how to use that future? I don't need it in color. Black / White or Gray will do as it will be stored as data anyway.

I have Dynamic WebTwain Version 3.x and using it in MS Access application on XP OS.

Thank you,

Hi,

The easiest way to go is to use Microsoft Office Document Imaging. It comes with Office XP and 2003, although I believe the version under XP is not as powerful as the one under 2003. The Office 2003 version of MODI allows full automation. In VBA, you can load the scannned image (black and white for example), perform OCR automatically and gain access to the text. This all in just a couple lines of code. Once you have access to the text of the scanned document, you can use VBA to place the text into your database.

Search the Internet for "Microsoft Office Document Imaging" for more information and programming examples.

Richard
