When I recognize the ContentType from a post by the HTTPUploadThroughPost method, it says "application/octet-stream". However, it should be "image/pjpeg" or somtehling like this. I store this information into database from which I then load the picture togehter with its ContentType. Is this by design?

Yes. It is by design.

In DWT, the ContentType of the uploaded image files are set as application/octet-stream. If you want to recognize the ContentType of the image files, you can obtain it from the extension of the image.
