We created a Windows Forms application (.Net 3.5, C#) which browses to a website that contains the Dynamic Web Twain control. The application crashes with an exception:

System.AccessViolationException was unhandled
Message=Attempted to read or write protected memory. This is often an indication that other memory is corrupt.

Of course, visiting other pages that load ActiveX controls do not stop running.

To reproduce:
1. Use Visual Studio to create a new Windows Forms application.
2. Create a System.Windows.Forms.WebBrowser control in a window and set its URI to "http://www.dynamsoft.com/demo/DWT5/online_demo_scan.aspx"
Now run and observe the exception.

Is it a bug? Or should I do special things?

BTW. We really have to use the webbrowser control because we do not own the scanning-application website.

John

Hi John,

Which OS are you using? If you are using Windows Vista/7/2008, DEP might be causing this issue. Would you please try turning off DEP and try again? For information on how to turn off DEP, please refer to:
http://kb.dynamsoft.com/questions/524/H ... off+DEP%3F

If the issue persists, please contact us at livehelp during 9:30 PM ~ 2:30 AM PST to have a GoToMeeting session. With the session, you can show us your screen and give us control of your keyboard and mouse when necessary. http://www.dynamsoft.com/support/livehelp.aspx

Thanks.

I'm using Vista.
After changing the DEP settings it works fine.

BTW. I tested on an XP too and there I did not need any DEP settings change

Thank you.

Hi John,

Glad to know the issue has been solved.

The default DEP configuration on Windows XP (SP2 or later) is OptIn. With this default configuration, only Windows core binaries and programs are protected by DEP. Thus it won't affect the performance of Dynamic Web TWAIN. For detailed info, please refer to:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/875352

Thanks.
